The use of adjustable white LED tapes to match circadian rhythm has been a topic of discussion for multiple years. Science shows that the use of circadian rhythm lighting helps boost productivity in the workplace, due to the quantifiable presence of blue light in the space. Blue light is most present in the daytime, at noon specifically.

Timing the CCT of lights to change throughout the day helps to wake the body up by increasing blue light, and wind the body down by decreasing it as it gets later in the day. The body is at peak productivity during daylight hours, and winds down as it gets later in the evening. By matching lighting to this time, the body uses its own circadian clock to regulate its cycle of sleep, wake, and amp up/wind down. As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, blue light has the strongest potential disruptive impact. During the day, it helps boost alertness, but at night, it prevents the body from regulating itself to gear toward sleep.

Klus’ adjustable white led tapes can be controlled to time themselves to sunrise, sunset, and changing CCT throughout the day. Starting off with yellow light to bring the body into a state of awakeness through brightness. As the day goes on, especially in rooms with windows, the gradual increase in CCT to cooler white levels introduces blue light in greater quantities, and then after noon, gradually lowering the CCT winds the body down without the harsh blue light keeping the user from having an issue where the body is tired, but the blue light is forcing it to stay alert.

Klus LED strip lights can go between 2200k (very yellow) and 5000k (average daylight) on our 1728 adjustable white tape. Klus can also provide tape with between 2700k (average warm white incandescent) and 6500k (bluest white present at noon) with our higher output 1920 adjustable white tape. At home, circadian rhythm lighting can help render the colors throughout the home without a drastic shift in CCT. While 5000k may be coming through the windows, rather than having a warmer light in the space, a cooler white will reduce the strain on the eyes for color blending during activities like reading and watching television.
